Immigration: Finish and German Passports Are Currently the Best EU Travel Documents to Have
Did immigration issues drive us to Brexit? What is the word on the streets right now?
Passports granted by the government of Germany and that of Finland are still the best European Union travel documents to own, and the world’s second most powerful.
According to the latest update of the Henley Passport Index, Germany and Finland have retained their second spot in the list of world’s passports, ranked from the best to the worst, with the best enabling its holders to enter most countries visa-free or with a visa-on-arrival.
Now, German and Finnish passport holders can travel to 188 world countries visa-free or with a visa on arrival, one more country than they could in July, out of a maximum of 227.
Japanese and Singaporean passports are still the world’s most powerful, with their holders having access to 190 world countries without the need of getting a sticker visa or an e-visa, two more countries than they could fly to in July.
South Korea shares the second spot with Germany and Finland, again, followed by Denmark, Italy and Luxembourg listed third altogether, while France, Spain, and Sweden are positioned fourth. Austria, the Netherlands, and Portugal are listed fifth, with their citizens traveling to 185 world countries visa-free.
While most of the developed countries’ are performing every year better in terms of visa-free traveling, the same cannot be said for the UK and the US.
“With a score of 184, the UK and the US remain in joint 6th place – the lowest position either country has held since 2010 and a significant drop from their 1st-place ranking in 2014,” a press release by Henley Global reads.
While the United Kingdom prepares to finally leave the EU, 22 of the 32 countries that occupy the top 10 positions on the index, are EU member states.
The data is updated in real-time by Henley Global, as and when visa-policy changes come into effect.
